This map is actually very interesting to me. This is a temperature map of present day Italy. It is actually a map that shows the temperature for today February 7th. I find it interesting how you are able to see the exact weather in this country and how you can compare it to the weather in your own country.
This map shows the physical features of Italy. You can see the highest regions above sea level and below.
Italy is full of beautiful mountains. One of the mountains is called the Dolomite mountain. This mountain range is part of the Alps which cut down northern Italy. It is places like these that give Italy such an incredible view.
This is called Po Valley. This land is very important. It is used as fertile farm land which helps support the surrounding regions.
Sardinia is an island of Italy. On this island many historic things have been found such as nuraghi, which are stone ruins shaped like beehives.
Sicily is the largest of the Mediterranean islands. Sicily is located just off the coast of Italy. There are many historic ruins and volcanos on this island.
Lastly are the the Apennine mountains. This mountain range cut straight through the heart of Italy running north to south. About 75% of Italy is mad up of mountains. These mountains are very important because they provide people with shelter, a successful environment to live on and safety.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a well known tourists attraction. The construction for this tower began in 1173.
Venice is known as "the city built on water." Venice is a big tourist attraction and once of the most painted and photographed places in Italy.
Construction for the Coliseum began in 70 A.D. This was where Romans held gladiator fights and other games.
Next to the Colosseum is 'Forum Romanum'. This was built in 800 BC and was used for many many years.
Arena di Verona is the second biggest amphitheater in the world! This place was used for performances and also fights. In modern day Italy this theater is only used for operas.
