Settlement of Italy There has been an abundance of tribes that have made their way through Italy. The first people entered Italy in 2000 BC. Those who settled in northern Italy were known as Ligurians, and those who settled in southern Italy were called Siculi (Rome early history, n.d.). The Greeks occupied the southern tip of the peninsula, while Romans, Etruscans and other tribes captured the northern and central part of Italy. With the wide variety of tribes making their way through Italy, it became a very diverse place. However, most of what we now know today comes from Greek and Roman historians (The Ancient People of Italy, n.d.). According to documents one of the most powerful and influential tribes to pass through Italy were the Etruscans. The origin of this tribe is lost, yet it is hypothesized that they emerged from Villanovan people. Villanovan people, are believed by archeologist to have lived in prehistoric Italy. The Etruscans colonized through Italy and at one point in time they ruled lands from the PO River to Campania. The expansion of Etruscans was put to a stop in the south by the Greeks. The inland territories were overran by Sabellian people migrating from the mountains (The Ancient People of Italy, n.d.). In 400 BC, Celtics invaded northern Italy. The Romans weren’t too pleased with their lack of land they had so in 396 BC they conquered a city called Veii. With the invasion of Romans and Celtics, Etruscans fell. Their cities became part of Rome’s growing Italian confederation (The Ancient People of Italy, n.d.). Other people that passed through Italy were the Ligurians, Venti, Latins, Umbrian’s, Campania’s, and Oscans. The population of northern Italy consisted of Etruscans, Celtics, Lingurians, and Venti. Those that lived in central Italy were the Latins, and Umbrian’s and Campanian’s. Key people in the settlement in the south were the Greeks, Samnite’s, Lucania’s, Bruttiam’s, and Lapyges. All of these people brought diversity and culture to what is now modern day Italy. A vast majority if the people living in Italy can trace their ancestors back to being a part of one of these tribes. The location of Italy makes it accessible by boat and plane. Many people settled in Italy because of the land, high hills which brought safety, and the beautiful landscape. The land made it easy for people to create shelters and raise animals. The wars that have passed through Italy have cause it to become such a diverse place. The citizenship and rights that people inherited living in Italy also made it very appealing. Not much information was found on germs. Most settlers were driven out by war and the desire for power and land.

This is a picture of modern day Italy. Now you are able to see the country as a whole and all of the cities that make up Italy. There arent as many things going on in this map like there were in the last two. Its a lot cleaner and also shows the countries that now boarder Italy.

The two pyramids are from very different times in life. I think that as time are changing and women are taking on new roles in society the number of children they are choosing to have is decreasing. According to the sources and information found under societal roles tab, families are having fewer and fewer children because women want to work more. I think that is why the number of children has gone down in the year 2015 opposed to how things were in 1960.

Figure 4
In the beginning ( figure 2 ) I was shocked to see that the average life expectancy was in the 30's. After further research I learned that it was so low because of disease. Now looking to figure 1 we can see that life expectancy has fluctuated over the years. What really interest me is the fast decline in the year 1918 which most likely has to do with war. Moving on to figure 4 we can see the ratio of babies to women is very over powered by babies. This was when women would typically stay home and raise a family. Now looking at the graph from 2015 ( figure 3 )we can see that although there are still many babies, the number has declined. I believe this is because women are now valuing a career over having multiple children.
